Dean was General Manager of Macmillan Education New Zealand for 10 years concluding in 2007. In this role he drove the business from start up to overseeing a thriving and respected publishing house. Dean managed a high quality team that produced various products including National Geographic Theme Sets (Teachers Choice Award), Fast Track (Fast Zone) (Teachers Choice Award), Springboard, Safari, Take Twos, Learnabouts, and Winners. Prior to this, Dean was Publishing Manager at Shortland Publications responsible for the conceptualisation and overall look of product. Dean has a Postgraduate Diploma in Graphic Design.
